5 Atlanta Events To Distract Yourself From Election Season

November is approaching, and that means news reports about every little thing candidates do and say will be raising Atlanta drivers’ blood pressure more than usual on their commutes. To some, hearing a candidate’s name at the water cooler is even more draining than discussing last year’s Super Bowl.

It’s important to stay up to date and informed during the election season, and WABE certainly has you covered for that. Meanwhile, take a break from all of the noise with some Atlanta events that’ll distract you from the presidential drama this fall.

Something Even Scarier Than The Candidate You Oppose
When: Sept. 29 – Nov. 6
Where: Serenbe Playhouse in Atlanta
What: The "Sleepy Hollow Experience" at the Serenbe Playhouse has previously been recognized as one of the top 10 Halloween plays in the country by American Theater Magazine, according to the event's webpage. Each year, the show becomes spookier than before, and will surely distract you from stressing about your pick for the 2016 election.

Chase Endlessly After Something You Detest.
When: Oct. 12-30
Where: The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta
What: "Moby Dick" is coming to the Alliance Theatre. When it comes time to vote, you can direct all the general rage felt by your political party on the ballot, but for now, watch Herman Melville’s classic tale of defiance and revenge come to life on Oct. 12-30. Captain Ahab will chase after the White Whale in a flurry of acrobatic stunts in this aerial storytelling experience, according to the event website.

Oct. 21-23
Where: Stone Mountain Park in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
What: Country Living Magazine is bringing its pages to life with a festival featuring hundreds of vendors from more than 29 states, according to the event webpage. Guests can check out artisan demonstrations, do some antiquing, try some specialty foods and more. Special guests including television personalities and performers will be demonstrating their craft on the fairgrounds, and guests can enjoy live music while they sample eclectic country goods.

The Stone Mountain Highland Games feature competitions for professionals and amateurs alike, as well as a fair-like atmosphere for guests.

There Can Only Be One!
When: Oct. 14-16
Where: Stone Mountain Park in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
What: The Stone Mountain highland games are the perfect place for you to practice up on your caber toss. Featuring Scottish fiddling, sheepdogs and falconry exhibits among others, as well as competitions and activities for children, the Stone Mountain Highland Games have something for the whole family. Children can participate in athletic events, games, crafts and more. Meanwhile, families can enjoy competitions surrounding feats of strength, dance and music.

AIDS Walk Atlanta donates to several charities which help to treat and prevent HIV/AIDS.

Walk For A Cause
When: Oct. 16.
Where: Piedmont Park in Atlanta.
What: The AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run, an athletic event which raises funds for AIDS Service Organizations in the metro Atlanta area, is on its 26th year this fall, according to the event website. Proceeds from this event go toward seven organizations that help prevent HIV infections as well as offer support to people infected with HIV/AIDS. Runners can raise money for charity as well as grabbing their qualifying time for the Peachtree Road Race during this certified, chip-timed 5K.
