Jenny Levison, the founder of the Souper Jenny cafes, is starring in the musical “Falsettos.” Those performances are Sept. 17 and 24 at the Atlanta History Center at 3 p.m.

Seventy-year-old Jan Pratt was born in 1947 and raised in small mill towns throughout Lancashire, England.

She had no interest in what traditional careers were deemed appropriate for women at the time, yet as a female, there were obstacles and glass ceilings. But, as we hear her tell her daughter, Franny Mulderig, she persisted.

The father was not in the picture, and she would be a young, single mother. She's now 44 years old and around 10 years ago moved her family from Puerto Rico to Atlanta.

In the StoryCorps Atlanta booth, she and her eldest -- Anthony, now 24 – speak candidly about how his presence has changed her life.  

Woman Remembers Moving From The Farm To ‘70s Atlanta

Cindy Gilmore was born the youngest of five children in the small farm town of Prattville, Alabama in 1964. She lived there until the mid 1970s when her mother decided to move to Atlanta.

Her daughter, 33-year-old Jessica Wals, brought Gilmore to the StoryCorps Booth to find out a little more about this time and transition from farm to city. She begins by asking her mother why farming was so important to the family.
