Walking into Madame C.J. Walker’s Beauty Shoppe and Museum, you might be a little confused. To the left, an entire wall of vinyl towers over guests, flaunting cubby after cubby of records from virtually every decade squished side by side.

To the right, hairdressing chairs welcome clients among shelves of relics from Madame C.J. Walker’s early 1900s beauty parlor and the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
