In a CNBC interview, Mnuchin on Thursday avoided a direct answer when asked whether he supported the decision made by the Obama administration to replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with Tubman, the 19th century African-American abolitionist who was a leader in the Underground Railroad.

A Massachusetts girl who wrote a letter to President Barack Obama urging him to put a woman on U.S. paper currency has gotten her wish.

Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew announced Wednesday that African-American abolitionist Harriet Tubman will be featured on the front of the $20 bill.

Sofia turned 11 years old Wednesday. The Cambridge girl says it was the "greatest birthday present ever."

Lew called Sofia to wish her a happy birthday and congratulate her on the news. Sofia's last name wasn't provided.

Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew has decided to put Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill, making her the first woman on U.S. paper currency in 100 years, a Treasury official said Wednesday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in advance of Lew's official announcement, said that the 19th century abolitionist and a leader of the Underground Railroad, would replace the portrait of Andrew Jackson, the nation's seventh president.

Lew's announcement is expected to provide details on other changes being made to the $20, $10 and $5 bills.
