Atlanta's Urban Farms Are Growing More Than Food

Agriculture is normally thought to be a largely rural enterprise, but according to this week’s Atlanta Business Chronicle, if you know where to look, there are farmers across the city of Atlanta growing produce and raising animals.

According to the Atlanta Regional Commission, there are 596 gardens, 82 farms and 64 orchards in the region. While the industry’s economic impact overall in Georgia is more than $75 billion, in Atlanta, the impact is far more than just monetary.

The headquarters of Equifax is on Peachtree Street in midtown Atlanta. There are more than 2,000 Equifax employees based in Atlanta.

Over the past month, Atlanta-based credit rating agency Equifax tweeted links to a fake website that looked similar to its own.

It’s the latest in a series of missteps following the announcement in early September that the personal information of more than 143 million people -- like credit card and Social Security numbers -- was exposed in a cyberattack.

It's no secret Atlanta doesn't have a regional transit system. But with the city pegged as one of the top contenders for Amazon's second headquarters, metro Atlanta's lack of transit might cost the city the deal.

DeKalb County had hundreds of trees down. At one point, 170,000 people were without power in DeKalb alone.

Sue Loeffler is DeKalb's director of emergency management. She said it takes a lot to add up damage costs from the storm.
