Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics

Grant Park’s Summer Shade Festival will be graced by the sultry soul of Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics this weekend.

The group has been around for 10 years and released their acclaimed album “It’s About Time” in 2012.  They have new music coming out this fall, and in the meantime, they're busy with shows from festivals to a concert celebrating 60 years of Stax Records in September.

“Fun rock is just the blending the most fun parts of different genres of music,” lead singer and guitarist Fontez Brooks said. “Even sad music’s got some fun parts to it.”

Baby Baby's most recent single, “Here,” is a tribute to all four cardinal directors of Atlanta.

Ga. Tech Creates Soundtrack For Atlanta's Solar Eclipse

The moon will block about 98 percent of the sun in Atlanta.

Atlanta will have its own soundtrack for the eclipse.

Composers from Georgia Tech created the soundtrack timing the music to be in sync with the eclipse.

It's kind of a dark, heavy piece with pitch changes to convey what's happening. For example, high pitches represent the moon and lower pitches the sun.

It is an eclectic weekend in the A, with indie rock, hip-hop, classic country and old-school funk and R&B taking to the city's stages.
