Trash on the beach: This may conjure an image of plastic bags or bottles washed up on the sand. But a lot of the plastic in the ocean is very small, even microscopic. It’s called microplastic, and a study of the Georgia coast finds that most it is coming from our laundry. The tiny threads of plastic out there floating in the ocean known as microfibers come from things like sheets and clothes.

A freshman class with record academic qualifications, culled from a record number of applications, is likely to push the University of Georgia's enrollment to another high mark as fall semester classes began last Monday.

The class of 2021 could also set a record for diversity, based on numbers recently released by the university.

The 5,800-student first-year class posted an average 4.0 high school grade point average and scored an average 30 — the 95th percentile — on the ACT.

The University of Georgia has nixed a professor's policy that allowed students to grade themselves.

Media outlets report that university officials on Tuesday forced Terry College of Business professor Rick Watson to remove his "stress reduction policy" from the syllabus on his webpage.

The policy would have allowed students to grade themselves and drop out of group work if they became too stressed. It also allowed for all tests and exams to be open book.

The way Kennesaw's city ordinance concerning purchasing is currently written City Councilman Jim Sebastian said he could legally get permission to use his city-issued credit card to buy a Mercedes.

"I could tell them I want 10 $3,000 charges to buy my vehicle,” Sebastian said. “And why do I need this vehicle? Because I have to visit a constituent to take them out to lunch."
