"Hamilton" has been nothing short of a Broadway phenomenon, bringing hip-hop and history to America's most storied musical stage.
Now, there's a new hip-hop musical generating some buzz, and it's penned by Marietta's Pebblebrook High School alums Ronvé O'Daniel and Jevaris Myrick. Their show is called "iLLA" and was named one of the "Top 10 Musicals Not to Miss" at last year's New York Musical Theatre Festival. "iLLA" also won the Festival's Award of Excellence for a Developmental Reading Series. Broadway musicals go through extended workshops to fine-tune their realization, and the creative minds behind "iLLA" have chosen their alma mater for their third workshop production.
O'Daniel and castmember D. Woods spoke with Lois Reitzes about hip-hop culture, "iLLA's" reception and more.
Five open-to-the-public workshop performances are scheduled for June 10, 11 and 12 at Pebblebrook High School.
