George Takei was in town last weekend.  He became famous for his role on Star Trek as Mr. Sulu - helmsman of the USS Enterprise. He was here to narrate 'SciFi-Spectacular,' a series of concerts with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

You may know comedian Wyatt Cenac for his time as a correspondent for The Daily Show on Comedy Central. Cenac was on the show from 2008 to 2012. He is also a stand-up comedian, and he has a new Netflix special called Brooklyn.

He’ll be performing  at the Laughing Skull lounge this weekend. Cenac recently spoke with WABE’s Lois Reitzes about the art of stand-up and his career trajectory.

Singer Francine Reed on Her Career and Recognition

This weekend, singer Francine Reed will be inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. At 67, Reed has had a successful career as both a solo artist and as the singing partner of country musician, Lyle Lovett.

She grew up in Kankakee, Illinois, and comes from a large musical family. Her older sister Margo is also a singer, but as she recently told host John Lemley, she wasn’t always sure that she’d be a singer as well.

The 36th Annual Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards ceremony will take place this Saturday, October 11th at the Georgia World Congress Center.
