People across metro Atlanta worked to get back on their feet Tuesday after Tropical Storm Irma left many neighborhoods with downed trees and power lines.

But every storm has a silver lining. For Medlock Park resident Stephen Perras, that silver lining was seeing people come together in his Decatur neighborhood to help one another.

Perras is part of a Medlock Park neighborhood group nicknamed the “Medlock chainsaw gang” that began a couple years ago.

Today, that’s North Decatur.

There, the South Peachtree Creek Trail links two neighborhoods, two parks and even two sports.

On one end are the baseball fields of Medlock Park and, on the other, the tennis courts of Mason Mill Park.

But you’ll find that this path does much more than connect Point A to Point B.

Two communities caught up in the DeKalb County battle for new cities are feeling the stress.

Druid Hills and Medlock Park may be very different neighborhoods, but the people who live in each are both feeling the pressure of annexation and new cityhood plans.

The latest wrinkle: a proposal to annex three DeKalb County schools, including Druid Hills High School, into the City of Atlanta along with the mainly affluent Druid Hills neighborhood.
