The destruction of New Orleans' levees are to blame for the deaths and devastation that followed Hurricane Katrina, according to America Crumbling, a movement that calls for the United States' infrastructure to be mended.

Hurricane Katrina was one of the most destructive storms in U.S. history.

Over 1 million people across the Gulf Coast were in need of housing or disaster related assistance after the storm, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Costs soared to more than $100 billion, and nearly 2,000 people died. 

Here we take a look back 10 years ago to remember New Orleans, one of the cities hit hardest by Katrina.
